on to September '25, Part 2

Lots of luggage with us as we wait for our flight to Europe.  (9/2/25)

Checking out the in-flight entertainment options while waiting for takeoff.  (9/2/25)

A couple of us coordinated watching the same movies on our seperate screens, but Lee mostly played games and tried unsuccessfully to sleep on the interminably long flight.  (9/2/25)

Sleeping on the London tubes as we frantically try to make it from the airport to our AirBnB before we all fall apart from exhaustion.  (9/3/25)

Everything is hilarious when you're this tired.  (9/3/25)

Waiting for a double-decker bus to take us to Westminster Abbey.  (9/4/25)

London!  After years of planning, we finally made it here!  (9/4/25)

Westminster Abbey is an incredibly fractal building -- every corner filled with memorials; every detail filled with more details.  (9/4/25)

In the land of ancient buildings and impressive cathedrals.  (9/4/25)

The bees in London are different from ours but also very, very cute.  (9/4/25)

Uh oh, one of our number may have turned into a gargoyle.  (9/4/25)

The oldest door in Britain and the youngest gargoyle at Westminster Abbey.  (9/4/25)

Lee is frustrated in his desired to chase the birds as we walk to a restaurant in this park.    (9/4/25)

Getting our audio guides set up at St. Paul's Cathedral.  (9/5/25)

A truly awe-inspiring space.  (9/5/25)

Lee ponders and then demonstrates how a bishop might move on a chess board with squares like these.  (9/5/25)

Above and below the same grill.  (9/5/25)

Treats and cartwheels in front of St. Paul's.  (9/5/25)

After St. Paul's, we strolled towards the Thames.  (9/5/25)

Noodles in the shadow of St. Paul's.  (9/5/25)

After crossing the Millenium Bridge over the Thames, we ran into the Globe Theater and decided we should stick around to watch a play.  (9/5/25)

Feasting on Greek food and running circles by the Thames while waiting to watch The Merry Wives of Windsor.  (9/5/25)

A lovely way to while away an hour or so.  (9/5/25)

Lane in the Globe Theatre and Lee with the dagger he got there.  (9/5/25)

Picking up some frozen pizza from the corner store for breakfast.  (9/5/25)

Heading into the incredibly crowded Paddington Station to catch our train to Bath.  (9/6/25)

The English countryside rolls by outside...  (9/6/25)

In Jane Austen's day, this two-hour trip would have taken two days.  (9/6/25)

A pleasant and beautiful place.  (9/6/25)

The 2,000-year old Roman Baths.  (9/6/25)

They would have looked a little different in Jane Austen's time, but she was here.  (9/6/25)

Sushi and coffee drinks.  (9/6/25)

More treats in the streets of Bath.  (9/6/25)

Heading out to enjoy our last day in London.  (9/7/25)

Chilling in the London underground as we zip around at high speed.  (9/7/25)

The Tower Bridge is not falling down.  (9/7/25)

After looking at the crown jewels, we walked past floors and floors of armor and weoponry.  (9/7/25)

At the top of the White Tower, there were artillery games teaching how to fight with a bow, rifle, and sword.  (9/7/25)

Taking a ferry down the Thames to Greenwich.  (9/7/25)

A view of the Queen's House and the London skyline from Greenwich.  (9/7/25)

The octagon room and the Prime Meridian.  (9/7/25)

As we walked up the big hill to the observatory, we passed these delightful slopes...  (9/7/25)

So, of course, we had to come back to them...  (9/7/25)

And let Lee run up and down, and up and down them.  (9/7/25)

Then it was time for throwing chestnuts.  (9/7/25)

Riding home from Greenwich in the top deck of a double-decker bus.  (9/7/25)

After a hectic morning, long train ride, and a cab-driver who scammed us, we finally settle in to this beautiful, ancient cellar apartment.  (9/8/25)

Dinner at an authentic French restaurant in Paris, France.  (9/8/25)

Lane accidentally ordered the octopus, but once we got everything sorted out, it was all delicious.  (9/8/25)

Pondering a pile of French pastries that included a croissant, pain au chocolat, gigantic meringue, and several other treats.  (9/8/25)

Back to our cellar after a very, very long day.  (9/8/25)

Exploring the Montmartre district of Paris.  (9/9/25)

There were restaurants on every corner.  And in the middle of every street.  And basically just everywhere.  (9/9/25)

Monuments and cathedrals everywhere... this one seems to have turned the children into cannibals, fighting over who gets to eat whom.  (9/9/25)

Throwing chestnuts in the Seine.  (9/9/25)

Coffee and breakfast at a cafe right outside of Notre Dame.  (9/9/25)

Quietly contemplating the stained glass.  (9/9/25)

In the tourist jam, round the Notre Dame.  (9/9/25)

A shop known for its cakes, one of which is cleverly disguised as an apple.  (9/9/25)

A true delight to eat.  (9/9/25)

The Eiffel Tower.  (9/9/25)

Lane tries Thai iced tea while Lee and I have fancy sodas at a stunningly good Thai restaurant.  (9/9/25)

We wandered through the night and found this random cathedral, a street performer singing and playing guitar, and a giant underground mall.  (9/9/25)
