We went to the Humane Society to look at orange kittens who we could name Miles...  (9/1/24)

...instead we found a garrulous, friendly little fellow who we immediately knew would be Julian.  We only realized after leaving that this was the day of the Bell Riots.  (9/1/24)

Celebrating the last day of summer with fancy ice cream from Salt & Straw, eaten beside a yellow horse.  Hello, yellow horse.  (9/2/24)

More adventures for Piper in her spaceship.  (9/3/24)

Avery's not sure how she feels about hugs, but she does know they're part of her job.  And she's good at her job.  (9/3/24)

The very first orientation meeting for middle school.  (9/4/24)

Getting right to work on their classes.  (9/4/24)

Hurrah!  A beautiful chocolate cake!  (9/4/24)

A nice clean desk to work on.  (9/5/24)

A quick round of Mario Kart.  (9/9/24)

Sudden Hannah squish.  And yes, Hannah actually started this.    (9/11/24)

Lee tries out the kitten toys we bought for Julian.  (9/6/24)

Now Piper tries them out.  (9/6&8/24)

Our new office setup -- the kids swapped positions, meaning Lane got a better keyboard and Lee got a better monitor, so they're both happy.  (9/9/24)

It's good to have help from someone who's already been doing school this way for years.  (9/9/24)

Discussing the best ways to make iced tea.  (9/10/24)

Hazel does not want this.  But then, Hazel also doesn't care quite enough to do anything about it.  (9/10/24)

Kelly has been conscripted into helping with schoolwork.  (9/11/24)

This is helping.  (9/11/24)

We went out to play badminton and found ourselves at a fox wedding, decorated with the brightest raindbow I've ever seen in real life.  (9/11/24)

Ready for their very first rock-climbing class in special rock-climbing shoes.  (9/13/24)

Lee brought two bags of Nerf weapons and a bucket of ammo to the park to meet up with some friends.  (9/13/24)

The friends brough Nerf weapons too.  (9/13/24)

It was supposed to be a Nerf war but turned into more of a weapons expo.  (9/13/24)

Lee wanted a picture in their new Spider-Man costume, and the dogs came running to participate.  Then we watched an episode of Friends with a lot of costumes and learned about Hannukah from the Holiday Armadillo.  (9/13/24)

We had to wait an extra 10 days for Julian, because he blearily bit a vet tech while coming out of surgery and had to be quarantined on the off-chance that he had rabies.  It's just like Julian to be delayed by surgery and then get stuck in a Sanctuary District during the Bell Riots.  (9/14/24)

But finally, they put the kitten they'd been calling Axel in our carrier, and we got to leave with him!  He looked bigger.  (9/14/24)

Julian spent ten days alone in a small enclosure.  This is a big change for him.  (9/14/24)

But he went straight to Lee.  (9/14/24)

Julian likes his cuddles.  (9/14/24)

Kitten kisses.  (9/14/24)

There's nothing quite like the glow of a new kitten.  (9/14/24)

It's amazing how quickly Julian fit right into our family.  (9/14/24)

From the moment we met him, Julian just belonged with us.  (9/14/24)

Avery serves as an ambassador, helping Julian get comfortable with the idea of living with dogs.  (9/15/24)

After getting comfortable with Avery, Julian was ready for a... BIGGER... challenge.  (9/15/24)

Hannah could not believe her luck!  A kitten of her very own!  Just like she's always wanted, ever since learning that kittens exist a few hours ago when she met Julian!  (9/15/24)

These two are ready for a lot of mischief and naps together.  (9/15/24)

Introducing Julian to friends over Zoom.  (9/16/24)

Working on math at the market.  (9/18/24)

Working on more different math at the market.  (9/18/24)

Lee has always been a natural climber.  (9/20/24)

Kelly found a new place to hang out that's way up high.  (9/21/24)

Cat nap.  (9/21/24)

Cat nap interrupted.  Well, supervised.  (9/21/24)

Batting at feathers and smashing demons.  (9/23/24)

Batting at feathers and smashing demons while Shelties supervise.  (9/23/24)

Animal antics.  (9/23/24)

Piper and Julian both love the feather wand.  (9/23/24)

Long child is long.  (9/26/24)

Skirmish over the soccer ball.  (9/28/24)

Cat in a hat.  (9/28/24)

The kids discovered Catan.  (9/29/24)

Some decisions take great thought.  (9/29/24)

There are many factors to consider.  (9/29/24)

Very important business dealings.  (9/29/24)
