Carefully arranging the fruit in a lovely pattern...  (1/1/23)

...but by the end, they were just cramming in blueberries wherever they'd fit.  Lane didn't want to stop.  Blueberries forever.  (1/1/23)

Hanging out with Hazel... who isn't sure why this is happening to her.  (1/2/23)

Preparing a card to go with the wedding present we plan to take to Kari & Rhia in Hawaii.  (1/7/23)

We dragged ourselves out of bed before 4am and arrived at the airport before sunrise.  Lee was so excited to be dragging a suitcase around the airport that they kept running circles around us and were thrilled to switch to playing video games on the plane.  Though, they found take-off kind of scary and didn't enjoy the view.  (1/10/23)

Some of the rest of us did not have so much energy and found the travel to Oahu very strenuous, dipping in and out of sleep like were stumbling through a swamp, just trying not to drown.  (1/10/23)

The first thing Lee wanted to do when we got to our place in Turtle Bay was check out this climbing tree.  It was also about all we had energy for after the full day of travel.  (1/10/23)

The trees are different here.  (1/10&11/23)

Our first real outting in Oahu brought us to some lovely roadside shops, surrounded by very friendly cats.  (1/11/23)

One of the shops had wooden sculptures; another shop, devoted to sea glass, was closed, but we came back to it on a later day.  The third shop was more touristy, with fun Hawaiian shirts.  Everyone got souvenirs from one or another of these lovely places.  (1/11/23)

Breaking the heat with some shave ice at Rainbow House.  (1/11/23)

In addition to shave ice, they serve ice cream and pineapple smoothies inside whole pineapples.  (1/11/23)

There were beaches everywhere as we drove along the coast, so we just picked one... and it was beautiful.  (1/11/23)

Warm waves, sunny sky.  (1/11/23)

We stopped at a random viewpoint while driving further along the coast and were treated to a spectacular view.  (1/11/23)

Can you guess which kid is going to love zip-lining?  We couldn't!  (1/12/23)

Two zip-lines in, and we're down to the kid who started out more fearful.  Six zip-lines to go!  (1/12/23)

Feeling like Indiana Jones.  (1/12/23)

Totally at ease during this terrifying endeavor.  (1/12/23)

Swinging through the sky.  (1/12/23)

This peacock at Waimea Valley seemed ready for a fight; Lee seemed ready to give it one.  (1/16/23)

Just chillling and watching the waves.  (1/12/23)

A big feast at Haleiwa Joe's.  We ordered tons of appetizers and fancy drinks all around.  (1/12/23)

We used the pool right outside our condo almost every night.  It got very deep, very fast.  (1/12/23)

At the beginning of the week, Lee couldn't swim at all.  By the end of the week and with a lot of practice, they were doing pretty well.  (1/12/23)

After an overwhelming morning of learning to snorkel, we made it back to Rainbow House; this time around, we switched up who got the shave ice and who got the pineapple treats.  (1/13/23)

Have a few free minutes?  Find a random beach to explore!  (1/13/23)

The kids... IN JURASSIC PARK.  (1/13/23)

The Waikiki Aquarium.  (1/14/23)

Communing with a river stingray.  (1/14/23)

The tank with sharks had a giant grouper bigger than Lee.  Unsurprisingly, Lane wanted to stay at the aquarium forever.  (1/14/23)

More flat guys in tanks of water.  (1/14/23)

Woah!  (1/14/23)

While we watched a wedding happen, this lump of a seal napped on the beach just a little north of us.  It had warning signs up around it, cautioning people not to interrupt its nap.  (1/14/23)

In all our sparkly, blue-and-silver finery, on Sandy Beach, Oahu, for my cousin's beautiful wedding.  (1/14/23)

Listening to the brides repeat their vows to each other in an ostensibly quieter location during the reception.  (1/14/23)

Very tired after a long day on the busier side of the island.  (1/14/23)

We spent hours floating and snorkeling in the gentle waters at Kuilima Cove at Turtle Bay, just minutes from where we were staying.  (1/15/23)

While we figured out what to order from the food trucks, Lee found a kitten.  (1/15/23)

The kitten -- who we called Busy -- was wonderfully friendly and playful.  (1/15/23)

Lee charges ahead, leading our way through a giant maze shaped like a pineapple.  (1/16/23)

Lane theorizes that if we can't find our way out of the maze, perhaps we can subsist on the hibiscus flowers growing inside it.  (1/16/23)

The joy of wandering through a botanical garden.  (1/16/23)

Learning how to braid palm leaf crowns.  (1/16/23)

Husking, cracking open, coring, and tasting a fresh coconut.  It was delicious.  (1/16/23)

Time for a luau.  (1/16/23)

After another full day of travel, a bunch of fuzzy people greeted us at home.  (1/17/23)

Exhausted from the trip.  (1/17/23)

Lee wanted to eat sushi while we were in Hawaii.  We didn't.  But we did bring home this gummy sushi from Hawaii.  (1/21/23)

Lee found and claimed this phone while we were going through and getting rid of old electronics.  (1/26/23)

Showing Avery a picture of herself and staging pictures of Sonic.  (1/26/23)

Lee is very much enjoying having their own phone.  (1/26/23)
